"Open your wallets" for Black and White Party Martha Wash Says

Speaking today with Central Voice, dance music icon Martha Wash said, “Open your wallets” and support The 5th Annual Black & White Party May 14, 6 p.m at Zembo Shrine Auditorium and Event Complex in Harrisburg.

This year’s event is a Broadway theme of “The Show Must Go On”.

Wash’s classic “It’s Raining Men,” scored her a Grammy Nomination and is a cult classic. “The Black and White audience is going to have a ‘greatest hits’ night!” she exclaimed.

“We’re going to raise money together” Wash said. Funds raised from the all-volunteer benefit are directed to The AIDS Fund of South Central Pennsylvania and York Family First Health. Through a grantmaking process, The AIDS Fund provides money to organizations within the region that help people with HIV/AIDS. Family First Health provides services directly.

Also appearing is Off-Broadway star Gordon Michaels, the Shueys and DJ Ryan Walter.

You can’t escape it. The Black and White Party is all over the region with billboards announcing the event. Look for the billboards – safely – in i-83 at 2nd St. Exit, Harrisburg; Harrisburg Pike/Route 15; Mechanicsburg, Enola, Paxtonia, and Linglestown. The billboards are courtesy of Lamar Advertising.

Tickets are $25 before the event, $35 day of, $100 for VIP Ticket, $125 day of. Beginning at 6 p.m., the event includes plenty of free and convenient parking, two stages of entertainment, food from regional restaurants, Silent & Live Auctions,

To date, the event has raised about $70,000 for The AIDS Fund of South Central Pennsylvania and York’s Family First Health’s HIV Program.

The Lancaster Pride Youth Outreach has its own new facebook page. “Like” their page and keep up-to-date on all of their exciting upcoming happenings! Their next project is sponsoring a Highway Cleanup of the section of Rt. 23 that has been adopted by the Gays and Lesbians of Lancaster for over a decade. Come on out on Saturday April 9th from 10 AM to 1:00 PM and help make our community more beautiful! Email for meetup location.

On Friday April 15th from 6 PM to 7 PM in honor of the National Day of Silence, the Youth Outreach is holding a Silent Rave at Lancaster Square. This is a silent protest where all involved will be dancing to music in their headphones that is silent to all but the listener. Bring your MP3s and be ready to dance!

Our next monthly Pride Meeting is Wednesday April 20th from 7 PM to 8:30 PM at the Lancaster YWCA. Meetings are held the third Wednesday of every month and are open to the public. Join us as we get ready for 2011 Pride which will take place on Saturday June 18th. We have exciting fundraisers, events, dances, youth happenings, etc. in the works for the upcoming months. We need volunteers to help in all aspects of putting this year’s Pride together. Come find out how you can get involved!

On Friday April 22nd from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM the Lancaster Pride Youth Outreach will hold a Youth Party at The Other Room.
This is a free party for those 14 to 22 and refreshments will be provided. Note–this is a change in date from what was announced in the last newsletter.

The Lancaster Pride Youth Outreach will be hosting Bingo Night the fourth Monday of every month. The next one is scheduled for Monday April 25th from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Carmen & David’s Creamery. It is a family-friendly night so bring your kids and teenagers. It is free to play, there are fun prizes, and ice cream & drinks will be available for purchase. Donations will be accepted.

Lancaster Pride’s next big fundraiser is the Carnival de Belvedere at The Belvedere Inn on Sunday May 1st from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Join Sparkles and DJ Freez for a specialty Carnival theme drink, great food, prize for the best costume, crowning of a Queen and King and all things carnival! Tickets $20 in advance, $25 at the door. Purchase tickets at The Belvedere, Mio Studios, & others to be announced. 21+.

Mark your calendars for Sunday May 15th! A Benefit for Lancaster PA Pride 2001 will be held at The Tally Ho. Showtime starts at 10:30 PM and features Whitley, Felicia, Amethyst, Johanna, Kahmor, Nitra, Platinum, Miraj, Visa, & Minaj. $5 cover & 21+.
