Prop 8 Expected to End at Noon Today Pacific Time

With the Prop 8 trail nearing it’s end at today at noon before closing arguments are scheduled, Rick Jacobs, Chair of the Courage Campaign Institute, says “Given the devastating testimony of defense witnesses, it is no wonder that Protect Marriage tried to keep cameras out of the courtroom. If their witnesses had been revealed to the public, Americans would have seen the Prop 8’s fear-mongering campaign exposed.

The trail goes into hiatus until Judge Walker determines a date for closing arguments.

In anticipation of closing arguments yet to be scheduled, Jacobs says “This trial is a historic marker in the struggle for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality,” Jacobs says. Given the devastating testimony of defense witnesses, it is no wonder that Protect Marriage wanted to keep cameras out of the courtroom. If their witnesses had been revealed to the public, Americans would have seen the Prop 8’s fear-mongering campaign exposed. The past 11 days of trial laid bare the truth about the Prop 8 proponents. The foundation of the Prop 8 campaign strategy was exposed, a strategy intentionally fueled by lies and misinformation about gay men and lesbians.”

Trail testimony grew explosive when Prop 8 experts witnesses admitted they thought “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” and the “Defense of Marriage Act” are “official discrimination” against lgbt people.

“We saw indisputable evidence that Ron Prentice and Protect Marriage coordinated closely and relied upon the Catholic Church, the Latter Day Saints Church, the Family Research Council, Maggie Gallagher, Brian Brown and the National Organization for Marriage to get Prop. 8 on the ballot and win through a campaign of lies and fear-mongering,” Jacobs says.

Jacobs noted the “horrifying video evidence that Prop 8 proponents would compare marriage equality to the 9/11 terrorist attacks and imply that marriage equality will open the door to pedophilia, incest and bestiality.”

“The results of this trial are crystal clear to us, thanks to the evidence presented and the work of the plaintiffs’ lawyers to bring the truth to light. The Prop 8 proponents are motivated by deep prejudice with a complete disregard for justice or fairness. Our hope is that we will see a decision based on the facts clearly demonstrating the discrimination same-sex couples face and the need and benefit to society of equal treatment under the law.”

I haven’t seen any guesses as to when we’ll have the closing arguments, or when we’ll have a decision. Maybe PA’s Freedom to Marry Week will be a huge celebration. But don’t count your chickens, even then, since this will be appealed.

As we’ve seen, and noted in the above article, Maggie Gallagher is one of the leading voices in homosexual oppression. She’ll be here, face to face, with Senator Daylin Leach in a debate. There will be time for Questions and Answers following the debate.

    Monday, Feb. 8th, 7:30pm.
    Cooper Student Center
    Harrisburg Area Community College
    One HACC Drive,
    Harrisburg.

Free and open to the public.

I know it’s hard to remain restrained when people are yelling in your face about how you’re going to hell, or when a professional, educated figure compares you to a child molester, but you must keep calm. Sen. Leach is the best person I’ve seen to debate these issues, and while your gut might want to scream, you must remain quiet and let him make your points. It’s within the agenda of the opposition to cause you to strike out, in which case they will sue you, they are counting on it.

We’ll have Maggie Gallagher here to express her concerns regarding Marriage Equality, and we’ll have Senator Daylin Leach to respond to those concerns. This is a rare opportunity to put both sides in front of the public at once. Now, when one side spews lies and twisting facts, the other side will have the forum to respond. You must remain civil and allow for the discussion to proceed between Leach and Gallagher.

Today, PA Senator Eichelberger introduced his bill, SB 707, once again, to amend Pennsylvania’s state constitution with defining marriage as one man and one woman. His office is currently unable to reveal if the bill includes the language to prevent civil unions… we’ll have to wait until tomorrow to see.
